Is it better to go straight into earning your master’s degree after your bachelor’s or to take a break?
I’m not in college yet, but I will be next summer. I was wondering if if would be better to get my bachelor’s, leave school, and get a job (editor’s assistant), and get my master’s later or if I should get my bachelor’s and start working on my master’s right away. Could you explain why you answered the way you did? At the moment I want to become a book editor. Hopefully progressing to senior editor and if I’m very successful (although I know this is a long shot), have my own imprint. Advice, please?

Take a break. Entry-level editing jobs are notoriously low-paying, and you’ll be in much better shape when you’re ready to apply for more senior positions if you have experience to show along with a degree. You may even get lucky and wind up at a publisher that will pay for your masters’.
If you want your own imprint, you may also want to consider the possibility that an MBA would be more beneficial down the line. For that, you’ll definitely need work experience – and you’ll be better able to judge how realistic that goal is once you’ve spent some time in the industry.

that is a problem that I am having right now…I will receive my bachelors in december, and I dont know if I want to take a break for a while or go back to school & start working on my masters…I am afraid if I take a break, I may find a god job and not go back…so it is a decision that I have to make for myself….good luck
