Is it a good idea to go to law school when I already have 30k in undergrad debt?

I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer, but since I already have 30k in debt from undergrad (federal) loans, my father is trying to convince me to get a job straight out of undergrad.

I’ll be graduating in May 2008 with a degree in political science, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find a good job that will pay me enough money so that I can re-pay my loans AND enjoy life!

Even though I will probably need to take out more loans for law school, I feel that I will have a better chance at getting a really good job with the law degree that will make it easier to pay off my loans and still do things in life that I want to do.

Your opinions?

if you’re top drawer material, law school will pay off handsomely.

You’ll have to work like you’ve never worked for three years and the resulting income will allow you to make your loan payments fairly easily.

Poly Sci owing 30k doesn’t sound promising to me, either.

You’ll make a lot more money in the long run if you go to law school sooner. Only if there’s a risk that you’re not serious enough to finish and pass the bar should you wait.

I’d go for the law degree. If you don’t do it you’ll always wonder what if. Your dad doesn’t have to live your life or pay back that money. Do what you need to for yourself!

You are better off finishing your college you are attending right now-if you applied to another college while attending another college and have this debt-they will see that and probably deny admission. It is a better idea to have done your research before attending any college because it isn’t free and you want to be sure you will be happy with the outcome.
