Is a degree in Social Science a good general degree…?

..if you don’t really know what you want to do? What would be another good, general degree that doesn’t involve a lot of math?

Are these types of degrees typically easier to obtain?

That’s what I did when I was in college. I’ve worked in social services for the past 7 years. If you like helping people and getting paid very very little money then it’s not so bad. If you want to make a liveable wage in this field you’ll have to get a Master’s Degree.

As far as getting through college with minimal math, social sciences is the way to go. You will have to do a statistics class though. To be on the safe side I would recommend taking some classes that will enhance your post college resume in give you more choices in your job search. Being proficient in grant/crystal report writing and the various Microsoft programs will help you out a lot.

What kind of job do you want? I say the best general degree is a math degree. A lot of fields use math and data analysis to some extent, except like humanities and stuff.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a math minor to a science based degree.

Just give it time…

Business degrees are very popular….

It’s rare to find a Social Science degree course that really challenges the students’ thinking and makes them form and test hypotheses, etc. For this reason, many employers wouldn’t rate a social science degree very highly because it implies that you haven’t been tested very hard (and maybe have chosen for that reason).

If you want a good general degree that demonstrates that you can grapple with tough problems, you could look at philosophy, ethics, and maybe add a foreign language.

Hope that helps.

You may have to pass statistics! What do you like to do? Don’t do this unless you really want to study the social sciences.

English does not involve math. Communications, journalism, history, political science, art…
