You probably will be sent to a police academy for training but not necessarily run by the police department in your community. There may be an investigation of your character.

There is a form online for your local department, fill it out and submit it. You then schedule to take a written test, here they say most people pass, think you need a 75% (?), then you will take a physical test, involves riding a bike running and doing these side-to-side leg jumps, once you pass that they schedule you for a background check, then a lie detector test, they ask for 6 references. They at some point go to your home and can interview your family. I have seen short and tall cops, you should be in enough shape to complete the test, do not know exact weight/height numbers.
