Your question is a really good one, and whether you realize it now or not, probably one of most important ones you’ll ask over the next several years.

To make sure you’ll not waste 4 to 8 years of your life, perhaps you should spend just a couple of hours asking yourself what it is that you really enjoy doing that can make a difference to others around you. College is a place that can offer you opportunities and directions that you can not even imagine before you start. I applaud you for being serious about earning a decent salary after you invest years of your life in its pursuit – you’ll deserve it after all of the hard work! But shouldn’t you also be happy? What if you end up doing what you love to do…AND making good money… wouldn’t that be really great?!

Careers that make a lot of money aren’t that hard to guess. A web search on the salaries of doctors, lawyers, bankers, engineers, and other professional disciplines that require advanced study and dedication pay the biggest rewards. If you really like these areas, you’re set. You could also make a fortune inventing something everyone needs, or dramatically improving something everyone already has. Everything takes work and for the most successful people, planning on how to reach the goal. After looking over everything that you write down, you may surprise yourself and find that making a huge amount of money may not be your top priority in life, but perhaps living comfortably with enough time for vacations, an eventual family, and community service may play a part too. Who knows?

Sincerely, I recommend that you at least take some time today and tomorrow to write your ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’ on paper in columns. After a couple of pages of serious thought, you’ll find out a lot about yourself and where you might want to spend valuable years of your life for the greatest reward. Good luck!

First, you have to be willing to put forth the time and effort. A negative attitutde from the onset certainly will not help.

Second, you need to look at your strengths and weaknesses as well as interests. If you are mechanical or technically literate there exists the viable option of computer programing, electrical repair, etc… Very good money can be made in these fields (in most cases with two years of school at a business or technical school.) Still, I don’t know your strengths, so this is only speculation.

Above all, you should not simply enter a career for the money. If you are going to be miserable doing something or find it nearly impossible to function in a certain career, then the shortcut won’t help you in the long run anyway. A lot will also depend on your geographic region.

Hope you will seriously think about these things. Good luck to you in your future endeavors. God bless.

Er, you are really not wasting your life if you are going to college unless you are just going to college to party and really learn anything like see some people do.

Find out what you like, the money will follow if you work hard at it and you are good at it.

find something that will interest you, other wise it will be a waste……my daughter went to college, took a 3 year program and went full time (summer) to 2 years, she got a degree in x/ray, then went on to become a MRI tech, very good money
