I want to go to college but…?

I’ve never had the best grades but i go to one of the best schools in the united states, rated #19 by Newsweek. But I’m just an average student. Few A’s, occasional D, rare F. It’s not for a lack of intelligence, it’s laziness. But maybe i’ve screwed it up too far. With the way my life is, i hardly have time to eat, much less volunteer or…so on. Is it too late for me to think about college? Will anyone except me? I’m dying to go to UCF or UNF, what do I do from here…it’s my first day of my senior year. I’ve changed so much from my last 3 years of highschool, I’m really focused on getting a college education but…maybe i’m just too late?

It’s never too late, and I can honestly relate to your story. I did very well my first two years of high school, but because of home problems, did horribly Junior year, and Senior year, I was trying to pull myself back together.

What you’ve got to do, and what I did, is to really reach for every opportunity. If UCF or UNF have Early Action or Early Decision, apply to them because the acceptance rates are usually a bit higher, and applications are treated a bit more leniently. Send e-mails and call the office of admissions and ask them questions, have them know your interest and dedication (and your name). Also, first term Senior grades DO matter, contrary to popular belief, so if you can pull off a better average for at least that one term (and have an “upward” trend) in your grades, that’ll help to.

It’s never too late, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck. It’s a hard time, to be sure, applying to college… but once you get the process over with, it’s a good sense of accomplishment.

I go to UCF…

For UCF, you should try applying early, in September is when the applications open (if I remember correctly). Also, by applying to start in the summer your chances of getting in are higher. Try to write an amazing essay and make your “special talents” stand out. Just remember that UCF does deny about fifty percent of all applicants now, so getting in is not easy.

UNF, to my knowledge, is MUCH easier to get into. I do not know anyone who was rejected from UNF.

If you do get rejected from both colleges, Valencia or another community college can get you in after you complete your General Education in two years.

i don’t know what your overall gpa is, but if it’s bad, u should do everything you can to do good on your SAT. You should also strive for a 4.0 for your last 4 quarters. If you cannot get into any of the colleges of your choice, then you could always go to a community college first, then transfer to whatever college.

Not at all. Nothing’s too late unless you make it to be. If you’re excited and willing for change, then I’m sure you’ll make it. Just discipline yourself and don’t let laziness eat you. Old habits die hard but it doesn’t mean that they are permanent. :O)

You see, my dad graduated from college when he was already in his late thirties, and my brother was already born.
