I need volunteer hours?

How do I get them over the summer?

Do I HAVE to join some club?

Can I help out in the gas station for my dad (for free)?

I have 0 so far. I am a senior next year and going to apply in December. I have 0 extracurricular activites, so I want to make it up by doing TONS of Volunteer hours. And I am planning to go to a top University like Stanford.

So How do I do it?

Hospitals, day cares, Head Start, nursing homes, humane society, church, schools (summer school). If you don’t know, visit the local United Way office, they will be able to point to towards places that need volunteers.

No, working for your dad would not be considered since you benefit from working there whether he gives you money or not–unless the gas station is a non-profit organization.

Volunteer with a local Literacy Council and either tutor someone in reading or learning English as a Second Language. There are also churches and soup kitchens that could use an extra set of hands.

You can help out your neighbors and family. You can’t use powertools, though.

There’s no need to join a club. In my city, we have a channel that advertises events and activities, and sometimes they say that they need volunteers. Perhaps you have a channel like that?

Try calling around. If there’s an upcoming event like a carnival, see if you can volunteer for that. Just offer your services and people will most likely be grateful!

Find out about places that offer volunteer opportunities in your community. Personally, I volunteer at a hosiptal, and know that all the hospitals around me accept volunteers. There are many other places, like the library, humane society or a soup kitchen. You can use this website to find places near you.

i dont know if this is what you are referring to, but i did Voulnteer hours at the Boys and girls club, it was fun and easy. you dont have to join, just have to give them your name, but you can go to animal shelters, or organizations. just make sure you get a copy of the hours you have, and record that they are keeping just incase someone wanted to view it. alot of towns and cities have plenty of things that you can join. just google them, and call to set up hours to volunteer!
