I’m thinking about dropping Pre-Cal. What kinda of Degree can I get if I dont have pre-cal?

Or should I just stay in it and get a tutor?

Stick with it.

Mathematics is golden door to many degrees including

Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Economics, Biology, Mathematics, Psychology and Computer Science

You *need* higher levels of math to get those degrees- almost no exceptions. Stopping at Pre-Calculus will shut a lot of doors.

Also, not to mention, the above degrees, generally, are the ones with greater opportunity (and better pay).

There are still many opportunities with other degrees that do not require higher math such as History, Literature, Foreign Language, Business, Art, Communications, Journalism, and Accounting (yes, really!).

Here are a few more things to keep in mind:

Starting at your level, math and science becomes very cumulative- you can’t move on to future material until you’ve mastered the previous ones. Make you know your stuff before moving on to the next step. A ‘C’ should not be satisfactory. And don’t be afraid to retake a class and/or ask for help.

Also, a degree *is not* every thing. Experience is king (or queen). A job seeker with an average grades, a “low-math” degree and 2-3 years internship experience will have an easier time finding a job than one with above average grades, a very technical degree, and no experience.

My advice: stay with it, and get a tutor if necessary. Then, if you don’t feel that you know it at the end, don’t be afraid to retake it.

I don’t know why you are thinking of dropping pre-cal, but whether or not you decide to really depends on what you want to get a degree in.

I and most of my co-workers have never taken pre-cal or cal for that matter. I have gotten several degrees, work as an Occupational Therapist (my co-workers are OT, physical therapists and Speech Language pathologists).

Currently I am working on a Master’s in Healthcare Administration, and still have not been hurt by not taking calculus. In fact, no one has ever asked. There are lot of degrees you can get, but it won’t be in Mathmatics, or alot of the different science degrees. You can take the science courses, but to get a degree in chemistry, physics, engineering etc you most likely will need calculus. So what do you want to do with your life? Figure that out, and then pick up a college course catalog. It tellls you the degree requirements and prerequisites. Don’t burn any bridges until you know what it is you want to do. I struggled with physics and wanted to drop it everyday, but got a tutor instead, and got a grade just high enough to receive credit. It was a prereq for Occupational Therapy.
