Yes, you can do this. Remember, you’re not alone. Lots of your other classmates are going to be missing their families, too. Granted, some of them are going to be really excited to be somewhere new, but even they’re not going to have any better idea of what they’re supposed to be doing than you will (or, if they think they do, they’ll change their minds about it). Eventually, you’ll all settle down into a new routine and get absorbed in your classes and start participating in activities, and you’ll feel more in control again.

And remember, it’s not like your family is going to vanish to the far side of the moon. Don’t plan on going home too often, or you’ll never get adjusted, but you can always keep in touch by phones and e-mail.

Trust me, in a month or so you’ll have tons of new friends & will be having so much fun that you won’t have time to miss your family! College was the best time of my life & I’d give pretty much anything to go back & re-live thos days!!!

Since you’ve taken college prep & graduated with a high GPA, I wouldn’t worry about your classes too much. I never took much colleg prep work, but my high school was really tough & did a good job of preparing me for college anyways. During the summer between my senior year & freshman year of college I took a couple general education courses from the local community college just to get a feel for the course work & to keep my mind active over the summer. I really didn’t experience much of a diffuculty jump between high school & college. Basically, you just expand your knowledge of stuff you learned in high school. That was my experience, at least.

Don’t fret over things. Go to school, make friends, have fun, & get smart :).
