I am 21 years old, and graduating college.?

I am 21 years old, and I’m graduating college, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I have no work experience but I’m thinking about getting an higher education. I’m not sure if I should go to law school or get into an MBA program. What do you guys suggest? and What type of MBA/MS program would you suggest?

Law school, the result of student’s majoring in things which do not generally result in their getting a good job. MBA’s are a close second. If you like the legal part of the criminal justice courses – reading the cases and how they apply to a set of facts – law school will be good for you. I went to law school with a couple former cops and crim justice majors who did just fine.

MBA, with a crim justice BS? Interesting combination.

Perhaps instead of an MBA you might be interested in an MPA, Masters of Public Administration. Then maybe you could go into administration at a police department, or something similar.

Or maybe a MURP? Masters of Urban & Regional Planning? If you like to figure out where things happen and why they happen and how to prevent them from happening by changing the environment, this might be the right major.

An MBA program is more for business related majors. Since your major was criminal justice, I think it will be a better idea to attend law school. But then comes the question: do you like to study law? or are you more interested in business? It is actually a choice of your own. You should study a topic that you would enjoy and like. I would give you my best wishes.

Where did you go to college. Did you attend the University of New Haven or Johns Hopkins.

What do ya want to do. If you want to be a PIG take the NYPD police office exam or the Boston PD exam or the Chicago PD Exam. The FBI is out of the question unless you have a B.S. in accounting, pass your CPA, and worked for a recognized firm.

Criminal Justice is a us less major like general management or philosophy unless you attended a good school.

Don’t wast your time and money and continue your education. MBA is wasted money unless you get into an investment banking training program out of college as an analyst and do that four 2 years and grew in your position. Law school will get you no where unless you want to become an ambulance driver if you go to NYU law or Harvard Law or Penn Law will you get a good job. There is to many people going to degree mills.

Every where you look industry want experience foreigners and minorities but does not want to train you.

You should have a top internship in a top company before you get out of college.

Many universities that have law schools and business schools offer joint JD/MBA degrees, so you can do both if you want. Just be sure to check the application instructions carefully – I’m inclined to think you may need to take both the LSAT and GMAT, but I’m not sure. Because you’re getting 2 degrees, it’ll take about 4 years instead of the usual 3 years for law school or 2 years for MBA (still saves you a year to do it combined though).

For law, are you ready to work 2000 BILLABLE hours/yr? A 40 hour a week job is 2080 hrs/yr. To get the 2000 billable hours you will have to work 70 to 80 hours a week. Just take that into consideration.
