How many students here either keep their textbooks or sell them back?

In my case I use to sell the books back during my first two years of college, but upon entering my junior year I began keeping them for reference. It’s really helped out whenever I’m in a business discussion (my major) with a friend and some point needs to be backed up. Or whenever something interests me on TV and it’s great to look it up in the textbook. I know it’s costly to keep the textbooks instead of selling them back, but I still feel it’s currently well worth it, even as I’m currently onto my second major.

So what does everyone else do with their textbooks?

p.s. If there’s a Half-price books anywhere near you, stop by whenever there’s a month left before the start of each semester. They usually have the textbooks that nobody ever purchased clearanced out, down to about $1.00 in fact. I LOVE getting textbooks in this manner, especially when they involve broad-ranging subjects like psychology and chemistry.

I keep the ones that I found to be a good read and for information. Others I know I could do without I sell them. I keep most of my books that are in my major. Buybackbooks.com lets you sell any books back. Psych books are so expensive so I try my best to by a used one that wasn’t written or highlighting in(because that’s what i like to do)

I am an ag science major, so i keep a lot of the soils books and animal science books. Because those classes are continuous what is dicussed in one class can show up the next. I never get enough back on them when I sell them back to the school so I dont’ feel too bad about it. Besides i usually end up taking the class when it is the last semester that they are going to use the book and switch to another edition and won’t buy it back any ways!

I am a sophomore and i have kept all my books. Since i lived in the dorms the first year most of us took the same classes. My roommate and i actually had opposite schedule, what classes he took in the wall were the ones that i took in the spring so we just switched textbooks and helped each other out. My fraternity actually has a book bank where they have most of the books you need and a essay bank for help with paper writing. I thought it was a good idea. I also keep mind because they never seem to give you enough and most of my friends read mine instead of buying their own and i do the same because our gen eds are the same.

A lot of textbooks, there really is no point in keeping because they are constantly being updated with new information and research findings, etc…if one needs reference years from now, they might be getting old info. I would sell them before the next edition comes out!

I sell my textbooks back. A lot of times, the classes I’ve taken (even in the same major) really have no continuity so it doesnt hurt if I do sell them back.

I have 90% of my textbooks and use about 25% of those on a monthly basis.

I kept all the books in my major. When some of them got ruined when I shipped them when I was moving, I replaced them. They are indispensible if you continue to do things involving your major.

i keep mine…too much of a hassle to sell back. plus, they never give u the true value of the book then re-sell it for almost full price.
