I had nine, and I don’t think that says that I am not good enough to get the jobs for which I applied. I think it’s because the right job hadn’t found me, yet. I finally did get my job almost a month ago, and I’m glad I didn’t get any of the others, because I absolutely LOVE this one! Try not to get discouraged. I know it’s easier said than done, but keep your head up and know that there is a reason for everything, even if you can’t see it, yet.

There’s a rule of thumb you can use.

10 applications/resumes to get an interview

5 interviews to get an offer

50 resumes to get one job offer.

This assumes you have a good resume and are applying for jobs that you’re qualified for.

Another rule of thumb is that you should expect it to take at least 1 month for every $10K of income you are expecting. It would take 4 months for example if you’re looking for $40K but nearly a year for $100K

(this is a result of supply and demand – there are fewer high $ jobs and more people want them)

Of course, these are rules of thumb and don’t apply to every job seeker or every market. There are some jobs (RN) where you can walk in the door and have a job in a few minutes. There are other jobs (college professor) where the number of applicants far outweighs the number of positions for them.

Good luck.

Well, if you are really good at presenting yourself as the best for the job, one. Don’t be discouraged with three or four.
