I can probably be done in 4, since they sound like relatively similiar fields and probably have some of the same required classes. You may have to take more credits during the semester or take a few summer courses, but you should be able to work it out so that it only takes four years. Petroleum engineering is really a sub-field of chemical engineering. There should be so much overlap in the course requirements for the two majors that (1) some schools probably won’t let you do those two as a double major and (2) if they do allow it, it shouldn’t take you any extra time at all.

Your best bet would be to contact the actual departments of the universities you are interested in. Engineering or any degrees take as long as the person takes depending on the amount of units they take per semester. You may wish to just get one degree at a time because you can’t work in both fields together. Your aim here is to get a degree and get a job. Two degrees, similar in nature, will not benefit you in this case most likely. I think you have high ambitions and people keep asking you what you will be doing in college. Your double major just sounds better to your listener.

It all depends on course load. If you half-ace it and do 12hrs a semester and take off in the summer, it will take you a lot longer than if you bust your ace and do 18hr loads and 12 summer hrs. Engineering is hard for a lot of people, so I would listen to your advisors when you go to set up your course plan. If you know exactly what you want and you can get all of your classes, you should have no problem finishing on time.

It can usually be done in 4 years with a rigorous program of study. With those two majors in mind, and the difficulty of such programs, I would plan on 5 years. If you can do it in 4, that’s great…but 5 would give you a little bit of room to work with your schedule.

It definitely just depends on the amount of classes that you want to take. If you take a BUNCH of credit hours each semester you could probably get it done on track. Just remember though, classes aren’t always offered every semester (which is a problem I’ve run into). You can probably get your basics done quickly, but the classes that pertain to your major will be harder to comeby.

i have 3 majors and will finish 2 in 5 years. i went to school for 4 summers though and took large class loads, but it can be done

really depends on what YOU want to do. double majors and minors can be done in 4 years.

You dont have to take summer classes (only if you fail a class) make sure that you dont get less then a B in ALL your classes.

If you don’t want to be totally stressed out give yourself an extra couple of years. It can be done in a shorter amount of time, but the classload will be huge and you will have to take summer courses.
