If you are a civilian, they won’t even bother with you. Military they may accept because they know how hard it is to do a traditional university. Make sure your career shines, though.

If at all possible, I highly recommend you attend a college rather than get your degree online. For one thing, it will save you money. For another, some credits from a university may be earned online and apply to your degree.

If you attend a community college for the first two years, you can save up to 2/3 of the tuition cost as a state university, and these courses are the same. Work with an academic advisor to stay on track, and you will do fine.

I have a friend who is now working for the FBI. The background check was exhaustive, and interviews were intense, but she loves her career and travels the world.

I am currently working on my masters degree at APU. They are a legitimate university and has the same accreditation as many traditional schools like the University of Kansas and Colorado State. The classes are pretty good. Some professors are more speedy to respond online than others. The students really make the biggest impact on the class. There is a lot of assignments that utilize posting to a discussion forum; timely participation in this portion of the class I think makes the class better because there is more time for everyone to research and respond. I think they have a grant for undergraduate classes where they get the books free; for graduate classes the books are at your own expense.

They require that the degree be accredited. The online degree stigma is dieing a slow death but it is dieing nonetheless.

The key, just like any degree, is a reputable college. Many of the finest colleges in the United States are now doing online degrees. It’s just the way things have become.

I know a couple of people at the FBI who earned doctorates online! BUT they were already employed by the FBI. However, there are many brick and mortar schools who offer online degrees. It’s the CREDIBILITY of the school that counts not how you obtained it.
