How do I become an MD?
Favorite Answer
After being accepted into a decent undergraduate school, you will spend four years earning a BA degree (or 3, if you have passed a certain amount of AP tests in high school).
You must then apply for medical school, which is like applying for undergraduate school all over again. Med school admissions officers will look at your grades in undergrad school, MCAT scores, a personal essay(s), an interview, etc. If you are accepted to a med school, you must spend at least four years in grad school. Usually, the first two years deal with theory where you just memorize a bunch of (sometimes useless) facts and the last two years deal with practice where you go through rotations and dissections. However, it can take longer depending on how well you do.
You also have the option to attend a seven year medical program. Schools such as Brown, BostonU and UCSD offer programs in which high school students can apply directly to a BA/MD program. They don’t have to apply for med school again and just have to maintain a certain GPA to stay in.
Best of luck!
