How competitive is optometry school?

I’m looking for percentages of people admitted from people applying. Thanks.

There are not a lot of people who are applying to optometry school so this is your great chance to apply and hopefully get into one of the 16 OD schools in the US.

The percentages that get into Berkeley out of those who applied is around 33%. This is an estimate from the data given on the opted.org website.

Hope this helps!

Most optometry school are very competitive as there are so few of them and the profession is nearly as well-paying as medicine and the work usually much easier. Some of them prefer to take entering freshmen into a six-year program which leads to a B.S. after four years and the Doctor of Optometry after two more. They may or may not accept what is in essence a transfer student. A 3.2 GPA is not impressive in any sense. It is not even a B+. The reason GPAs are important is that they indicate the student’s ability or lack thereof to do more difficult work. In most fields, B is the lowest passing grade in graduate school. I wish I had something more positive to tell you. If your grades have improved each year since you entered college, I would suggest that you consider delaying graduation by a semester or a year so that the last two or three semesters on your transcript will show straight A grades. The easiest way to do this is to put off taking a required course for graduation until the semester in which you are going to graduate. This also gives you the chance to take classes in which you can more easily earn straight A grades during your last two or three semesters. These classes must be upper division classes in your major or a related subject for this plan to have a chance of working. Be sure to check your college’s regulations to make sure you can do this. Some of them have been clamping down on the total number of units a student can take, so you need to check this out.
