good GPA means to succeed in life?

is GPA a indication to succeed as a future graduate in MBA?

I disagree with that, because it is not the grade that matters. As far I am concern, there are quite bit of business leaders who didnt finish college. Book street is not the same as street smart.

I am not saying this because I have a bad gpa. I have around a 3.4, I guess it is alright. I am just questioning those people who want to go into grad school(especially MBA) without any clue to start with.

Please share your thoughts with me.

No, a good GPA is not a guarantee of success in life, but that isn’t the whole story. To begin with, a person with a good GPA could have poor people skills or emotional intelligence, or some other characteristics which gets in their way, despite their ability to handle academic work. Secondly, those who get poor GPAs may have those GPAs for a variety of reasons. They might be lazy – now, that doesn’t mean that they lack intelligence, but lazy people are rarely successful, so the poor GPA isn’t why they won’t be successful, but it may be just one more example of why the individual will never be successful. They might not be very intelligent which, again, does not bode terribly well for great success, although I can certainly think of a number of unintelligent people who are very successful in the world. Finally, they might have a low GPA because business (or the area of business they chose to study) was not their passion, but then once they graduate they find some other way to succeed. In that case, they might do very well despite a low GPA.

GPA doesn’t guarantee you anything except maybe a bigger chance of getting into a good college. but a good GPA is also very helpful because it shows potential employers that you’re capable of success in school(thus more likely also capable in your work).

its absolutely true that book smarts aren’t everything, but its something that you undoubtedly need to be successful. because come on, lets face it how many people like jobs and gates do we have in this world. street smarts is essential. but street smarts is something that can’t be measured, while book smarts can. so in our world, they’ve become the best device to measure our abilities, even though they don’t represent the entire picture.

GPA has little to do with success. I graduated from a high school that had lots of advanced placement courses. It was a school that did a good job of prepping you for higher education.

One of the Valedictorians of my high school went on to get into drugs and raves. Didn’t want to go to college. Now he is taking care of his four year old daughter working make-ends-meet jobs. The grades you get have little to do with the common sense that is needed to make it in this world.

Granted it does help to have intelligence in the field you plan to work in. But without street-smarts, you’ll get nowhere.

Well if you do get a high GPA(4.0+) and get into a good school, IV league or Public IV, then you will have a greater chance of being successful in life. Bill Gates was not a herp and derp btw he got a 1590 on his SAT out of 1600. ALMOST PERFECT SAT

I agree with you — a GPA doesn’t mean life success. It may mean you are good at pleasing people, and have a good memory. But if you run into unforeseen tragedy, or suffer from mental problems, you might not be a success in life.

A good GPA is a good start, though.

(-: I had a great GPA in high school, and a decent one in college . . . I’m not what you’d call a total success, but there is happiness in my life. Having motivation is perhaps more important in success than a great GPA.

Did you know that HR people sometimes consider a GPA of between 3.1 and 3.6 to be more impressive than one in the 3.75+ range?

The reason is that it’s assumed those 3.1-3.6 people had to work for those grades but that very many people in the very high GPA range never had to really learn to put forth an effort. Their intelligence level is so high that they, in comparison to their peers, probably had to do nothing more than attend class.

People who simply attend work aren’t good workers. hmmmmmm

Hardly. In fact a very large number of intellectuals, musicians, and captains of industry did poorly in school. Einstein and Bill Gates come to mind.

just because the didn’t finish college doesn’t mean that they weren’t educated. people like that chose a different kind of education. they chose to raise their financial IQ by learning the specific skills that they needed to be successful in a specific venture. when the next venture requires a new skill they go out and learn it.

A GPA gives you choices. Anything you can do with a lesser GPA you can also do with a great GPA. However, there will be choices open to the great GPA that are not open to the lesser.

If you want to go to grad school, you need to learn to write correctly. Work on your grammar, punctuation and spelling.
