Getting ready for college @ 37?
I’m getting ready for college, starting with this fall semester. I Will be persuing a BS in Software engineering. It’s been a while since I have taken any classes, but I had an opportunity to get free tuition for 4 years if I attend college full time. So I Quit My full-time deadend and unsecure job of 12 years, to go after my dream of having a college degree.
My question is: are there any books or web-forums to prepare myself and my mind for the study habits and comprehension needed? 12 years of not really having anything intellectually challanging has been a bore and I look forward to College. I just want to get great grades.

What you are doing, I too have been through, and you are in for a great experience. I went back for my BA at 25 and kept going and going and going, and now at 36 I am a university assistant professor. Being older is a great asset and advantage. I don’t know any web pages or books, but I might be able to set your mid at ease a bit and get you ready.
Your future classmates will be 18 with no life experience, work experience, experience with freedom, or life on their own. They will be trying to adapt, chase the opposite sex, drink too much, avoid STDs and then try to pass their classes. You are not like them. They have difficulty just getting to class. You will not skip class.
Being older is never a hindrance in university. Your professors empathize with you, will like you, will help you when they can or when you ask. You should talk to all of your teachers, tell them about you and your life, and they will respect what you are doing. After all, you are probably the same age or older than many of your professors; simpatico.
Competing with 18 year-old kids is no problem; this isn’t sports. You are going to kickass. Just go to all classes, contribute to discussions, turn in your work on time, and visit your teachers during their office hours. That’s all you need to do. And study, but I am sure you already knew that. Good luck!
Go visit the school beforehand to get the lay of the land.
Since you’re more mature and serious about school, you have a tremendous advantage over the 18 year olds.
