For college students?

Ok, is taking 7 classes my first semester smart, or at least possible?

This is my first year at Penn State, I’m taking 3 art courses, an algebra & trig course, a calc course, physical conditioning, and some english class. I’m trying to be an architect, or at least an architectural engineer! I was a b- to a b+ student in High school. And my counselor says I have to get really high grades to get into the architecture major at University Park!!

Is this possible?

Possible? yes. Wise? no. You have 4 years to get your education. The thing most important is gleaning all you can from both your coursework AND the experience. It will be very difficult to retain much of what you study at that pace. The first time you go skiing I won’t reccomend the slollum slope on Mt everest. The first time you drive we won’t reccomend an INDY car. I would say 4 to 5 classes is More than plenty. Good Luck

No.

That’s around 21 hours, unless you have a few one-two hours in there when it will be closer to 18.

My advice would be take around 14-16 classes and stay with 2-3 easy classes and 1-2 hard classes. Unless you’re a whiz at math, taking calc, trig AND algebra is a HUGE mistake.

My advice?

–Work on your gen eds. Take one art class, one math class, physical coniditioning and an English class. Throw in a “intro to IT” class too.

–KEEP IT UNDER 16 hours. You’re going to have a major blow out if you don’t. Don’t get too excited and too overwhelmed by classes that you get lower grades.

As you progress in college, THEN start taking more and more classes. Take summer courses. Take 18-19 hours your sophomore year. BUT NEVER take more than 16 hours a semester during your first year. Give yourself a chance.

Normally I would say no, that’s not smart, but when 4 of them are ‘fluff’ courses (art, gym) it’s probably not a problem. The real problem is – why are you taking three math courses at once? Are you really that far behind in math that you need to take algebra? And if you don’t know algebra, I really don’t think you’ll have much luck taking calc at the same time.

You may think you are getting ahead with this demanding schedule but you are only going to waste time and money. Start with taking four or five classes MAX! You dont want to overwelm yourself so that you can’t focus! I would not reccomend two math classes. try instead to balance it out. You need a list of all the classes you need to take. Divide them up each semester so that you have a math, english, art, and then elective and etc. Its always better to take fewer classes and do better in them, than to take more and do avg. Hope this helps…

who knows
It is possible. But I must warn you, I did this. It is not fun at all. It is hard and be prepared not to have a life for a few months. Be prepared not to have that many hours to sleep. But yes it is possible or else the college would not let you do it. It is alot of money too. So it would suck for you to drop that much money for the classes to find out that it is too much and drop some of them. You are just going to have to repay to take them another semester. Just be careful.

Dude, take less classes – you’re going to leave yourself with no social life.
