Extra Letters of Recommendation (given my situation); is this a bad idea?

I am a former high school dropout, but not by choice. Its a long story; I was supposed to move, signed myself out, ended up not moving anywhere but to my grandmas house, had to leave old district because of residency rules, and had no proof for this new district where I lived, so I had nowhere to go….

anyhow, I’m applying to a very selective school, Berea College. I just recently was able to re-enroll, but when I apply in 2 months, my transcript will still be most of my last semester (which I am catching up on), even with my 3.8 gpa and AP class.

The school requires 2 letters of recommendation, both from teachers. I have those set.

However, this school is largely based around Christianity and service learning. I’m considering having the Hospitality Coordinator at my church, who I have voluenteered every sunday for since I was 12 in cooking meals for the “bus kids,” write me a letter of recomendation.

Is this a good idea?

Yes, but make sure you put on the envolope that it is a “surplus” reccomendation.

Some school discount extra reccomendations whereas some dont mind.

But you should check the site, it should tell you about “surplus” reccomendations. And how they deal with surplus reccomendations.

I’d also put somewhere in the application where it makes sense on the reason you dropped out of school (the personal statement is a good place to do this if they have one).

And it probably won’t hurt, but I’d still check the site to see if they accept them.

you need to probably ask the individuals you pick to write down letters superb now. Then once you have submitted the appliance provide them an envelope and ask them to deliver a letter to the college. additionally, maximum faculties now settle for digital applications, so which you will deliver your instructor an e mail for the period of the appliance internet site once you have complete.

I think it is a good idea. It sounds like this person knows you well and can offer insight into your personality, work ethic, values, etc.

I think the extra letter would be a valuable asset to your application.

Good luck!
