does the first semester of highschool senior year count?

i heard two opposite ways about how colleges look at a highschool applicant’s first semester senior grade.

one says that first semester is as important as junior year and it will be included in ur gpa

and the other says that the grades receive in senior year do not influence one’s chance to get into his dream colleges, however, it only matters if ur already enrolled and if you dont do well in senior year, they drop u.

which one is true? if neither, can you tell me what EXACTLY how colleges view a student’s grade as a senior?

Your first semester grades count. Colleges will accept you starting in March unless you do early decision in December. So, either way, most will have a chance to look at your first semester of your senior year in making their decision to accept you.

However, some colleges are now looking into the second semester grades and are revoking acceptances if you slack too much, because you will be dragging down their statistics and affect their rankings in US News and World Report.

nope, but they will look at what youre taking, to see that you’re not slacking off.

and yes they might drop you if you dont do well in your classes. they expect you to be getting similar grades that u got your junior year. which college is this? state? private?

for our state schools, i have a chart of what they look for and you can basically add up all the points and see whats your chances of getting in, excluding the points for essays. and you dont include your senior grades.

iuno what wh is talking about bc in california, early decision is before november and UCs deadline is on nov 31. you cant even list your grades for the semester on your application.

Your first semester WILL count, no matter what…especially if you are looking into being accepted at competitive school. Your second semester…though already accepted, can affect what your college may decide later on. If you totally blow it off, don’t go, grades fall from B’s to D’s…you have a problem and they CAN revoke your admission.

Colleges look at your grades in high school and also attendance. They also look at your extra activities outside of school or in school. It all counts.
