I love the idea of a book Samaritan, but there is no such thing. A few possibilities: First of all, if you have some money, just not enough for the new textbooks, try getting used ones online. Secondly, see if your professors will put copies of the textbook on reserve in the library; you usually have to do your studying in the library that way, but at least you don’t have to pay. Thirdly, wait until classes start and you see the syllabus to find out what you actually need. Some professors will put books on the list and never use them or, more commonly, they may only use one chapter or so of the textbook. If that is the case, see if you can borrow the book from someone and Xerox the necessary material. My best suggestion – go to the teacher’s office to ask them if they plan to put the book on reserve and explain your situation. Once in a while a bookseller will accidentally send me multiple copies of my textbook. If someone takes pity on you, they may give you the extra one.

There is no such thing as free text books. Ebay, Amazon, Halfprice are all good web sites to get cheap books. Also check with your local book stores some times they can get the books for cheap.

if nothing works then the school book store has used books for half price and then after you use them you take them back and they give you 20-30$ back.

Other students have book pools where they share with each other.

some clubs or sororities sisters must have books that you can use.

Ask the professor if your even going to need the book because some times you don’t.

try to email instructor before class to learn if you need class. sometimes they do not use all the books that it references.

eBay , Amazon books have second hand books. sometimes schools sell used books.

congrats about going back to school. the textbook biz is a racket. just look at it as the cost of doing biz. someday you ‘ll get the payout .
