There are SLP Graduate programs online. From my understanding, you still get supervision, clinical experiences, etc. in the city where you are (they just arrange it after you have had your online courses).

I had one online course in SLP and the major disadvantage for me was that I got an A but didn’t remember anything I learned after that.

I guess I am a hands on learner.

Other cons I can think of are:

– compter problems

– not building a close network of SLP student peers

– I don’t know if you will get enough contact with your professors to get great letters of recommendation from them

Pros could be:

– convenience (If you need to work, raise kids, etc at the same time)

– maybe you’ll get more online resources in an online program

– you may be able to complete your courses at night/weekends or whenever is best for you

HOWEVER, all of the above is my own experience/speculation. I am not 100% sure of any of this.

I’m a speech-language pathologist. You may be able to do undergrad credits (1st two years of core credits) via online learning.

Your second two years will not be online, as you have to work with a clinical supervisor at the university to learn how to deal with clients face-to-face. You will have a huge number of practicum hours to fulfill, which will take you into many different places, such as hospitals, schools, rehab facilities, and audiology offices. You will probably have to take courses in research and statistics. You will have to take the GRE test and pass it.

Only after you complete all of this will you be eligible to compete for the few places available in graduate school. This is a highly competitive field, and on top of that, the coursework is very rigorous, and I mean VERY. Graduation is followed by board exams. Even after you finish your masters degree, you have another 9 months of internship to get certified, then you must participate in continuing education requirements to maintain your licensure and certification for as long as you are in the field.

If this is the field you choose, I hope it all works out for you.

Best wishes!

someone does speech path. online if you aren’t already certified in speech path.?

I am a supporter of online education but this one would be exceedingly difficult to do online start to finish.
