No it should not be required. or if it is then it should be free. so what now we have to pay to get into college also? we already have to pay for the classes, and books, so what now just to get in too? hell no!

What is not said there is that many schools are dropping SAT in favor of the traditionally less popular, but some consider tougher ACT. Wikipedia is not all that accurate a lot of the time. Still some are dropping testing, but not many.

I think there does need to be a test of some type, to gauge probability of success. Even students who score low are quite often admitted conditionally for the first semester then fully if they have satisfactory grades.

states like OK and KS have leaned toward the ACT for a long time and I understand now TX is beginnig to move that way. Generally (of course with exceptions) it has been tougher to get in a univ. in OK and KS than TX and they may be seeking to raise admission standards, but I do not know that it is only speculation.

I took both and the ACT was harder for me, but I did very well on both.

Some standardized tests are needed in order to allow colleges to compare students from different schools with different grading standards. Whether the SAT is the best one, I can’t really say, but relying solely on high school grades to evaluate academic ability is also not a good idea.

No, not at all. At my school it isn’t required (although they do accept them), which I think is great. SAT’s don’t measure how well you will do in college, or even your intelligence–they measure your test taking skills. The SAT’s also discriminate economically, because kids who are more wealthy have the money to pay for expensive SAT prep programs, and therefore tend to do better on the test.
