College studying help?

I am trying to figure out ways to study for college classes. I am full time and this is my first year in college. I thought I was doing good but I am getting middle 70’s on test and its frustration. I am majoring in nursing so in order to get into the classes I need I have to do really good in my general classes. What is a good way to study for unexpected quizzes or testes?

A good way to study for anything is to understand what you are studying. If your environment distracts you, you cannot digest things that you are reading/studying. I suggest you study in the library where it is conducive to learning.

Start reviewing your course outline or the syllabus that your professor gave you on the first day of class. That’s the outline that you should follow in studying. Read on the assigned readings. The key is to read and to read. There is no easy way thru college. Any degree entails hard work. Good luck.

Break the content into sections and find out the best way that you learn. Some people learn best by writing lists, making little songs, writing the info out into a book using highlighters and attractive writing, creating a poster you can stick opposite the toilet so that you are tempted to read it while your sitting there, etc. You can study for a test in a week, although it’s not really advisable (start studying or at least organising your notes about 3 weeks before hand). Create a time table or diary and if you find motivation tough, break your study sessions into at least 1/2 an hour at a time. When you sleep your brain sorts out all the stuff that you remembered etc during the day and so quickly re-read over a section of your notes before you go to bed, this can help you remember the information better.
