If you go to a community or state college, you will find that many of the students are your age. It might be harder to fit in if you have a family, but othewise, most of us don’t really notice much of a difference between the student who is 22 and the one who is 26. As to the felony, of course it will make it more difficult to find a job, but that is true without the degree too, and you currently have both the felony and the lack of education working against you; why not remove one of the impediments to progress?

Non traditional age students are so common now days they are being called The Next Tradition of college. At my local community college the average age of students is 29. You won’t be the oldest person in your class, trust me. Regarding the felony, yes, some employers wont hire you because of the charge, but I would talk to the schools counseling/career office and see if you can get any direction there regarding a major. Make an appointment if possible. There are also some publications, videos, books, you can check out of your local library about life after incarceration or something similar (even if you weren’t actually incarcerated this would be a good google search).

Just go; getting an education is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Plus, there’s a lot of older students who return to school. It’s definitely not too late for you. Plus, exhibiting the dedication necessary to get a college degree will send a solid message to employers that you’ve paid your debt to society and changed (though I won’t claim that finding a job is easy all the time, even for people without a record). Plus, college is fun….no matter what the age. Good luck!
