chances of getting into University of Minnesota?

I really want to go the University of Minnesota next fall, and just want to get some ideas on whether or not I will be accepted… I have a 3.7 gpa and am involved with many extra-curriculars. I am secretary of National Honor Society and Thespian Honor Society, for example. I only got a 25 on my ACT however, and even with my gpa I think I am in the top 25% of my graduating class. With that being said, what do you think my chances of getting into U of MN are?

Yeah, most Midwestern-ers won’t take the SAT, don’t waste your time and effort. A 25 is still good. The 3.7 is great as long as you took things that look good on paper.

The major thing here, is that you convey your extra-curriculars and show that you’re well-rounded and an overall strong applicant, which I’m sure you know is important.

But the NUMBER ONE thing at the U, is what college are you applying to?

College of Biological Sciences currently ranks hardest to get into.

Carlson School of Management is number 2…the rest I don’t know but I know the easier ones…

Institute of Technology is 3 for sure.

College of Design – somewhere 3-5 hardest

College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Sciences, same as CoD^

College of Liberal Arts, the largest and one of the best shots.

College of Education and Human Development is, pretty much our General College.

TONS of students apply to CLA, and CEHD to get INTO the U, then just transfer to the college they want to be in after they knock out a couple great semesters at the U, very easy! Good luck!

if you aren’t a big math/science person try taking the SAT which is more balanced. Some people do better on the SAT rather than on the ACT and vice versa. If you take my advice and you do better comparatively then with your GPA I’d say you have a very good chance, but even still with a 25 ACT you still have a good shot. so do as you wish, but make sure you explore all your options. Good luck Golden Gopher.

Most students in the midwest going to midwest schools don’t take the SAT at all.

I never did…though times might have changed.

I think your chances of getting into the U are very good…especially if you are already a Minnesota resident. Don’t sweat it. Sometimes they like to make you sit and wait.
