Can someone tell me the community college transfer process?

I am planning on transferring to UC Irvine for Fall 2008 from the local community college, but I have no idea what I’m supposed to do in order to transfer. I know I have a 2.78 GPA, but I’m working hard on bringing that back up. I would be the first person in my family to even make it to this point, so I would really appreciate it if someone could explain the process of transferring to a 4 year university to me.

First, I would be negligent in not telling you that a Bachelor’s in Psychology is not an employable degree. It is perfect if you plan on continuing on to get your Master’s in Psychology and become a counsellor, or it you want to later go to Law School, but a Bachelor’s will not get you a job. I would either make a plan to take your Master’s or find another major. You can take an Associates in Liberal Arts/General Studies, which will mean you’d be taking math, English and some other classes of your choice while at Community College. Then, after two full years, apply as a transfer student to a Psychology Program at the University (it will take you about 2.5 years to complete the remainder of the Bachelor’s degree. If you try to transfer with less than 2 full years at a Community College, then the University will only consider your high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores. If you finish 2 years at community college, then they only need your Community College GPA and your SAT/ACT score.

N.T.
How ironic, you try universities from Canada because they have a lot more transfer agreements with community colleges, than American post secondary institutions.
