Art School?
Favorite Answer
I found the art classes at art school to be a lot more intense than those at university. The people at university tended to have broader interests. Yes, we were doing art, but we were also studying business, and math, and English, and French, and so on, so there was less of a pure focus on art than there is in art school. Most of my friends weren’t artists. Most of my off-hours were spent doing things unrelated to art (I’m talking extra curriculars, because of course my homework was all art.) For me at the time, that was perfect. But when I wanted to study art 100% – just art, purely art – I did my courses at art school. I loved that environment. Everyone there lived, breathed art. It was very focused and intense. Even the clubs and etc. were on topic, or somehow related to art.
If you think the art school environment is what you want and need, then go for it. For me, my interests were too broad, and I wasn’t sure that art was what I wanted to do when I graduated. Thus, I chose a good art program within a broader university, rather than a pure art school.
