Are the following extracurricular activities enough (and good) when applying to a college like Stanford?

Besides the academic part, which i know is important, are these following activities enough and look good for college like Stanford?

1. DECA club

2. CSF(california scholarship foundation)- started in 8th grade

3. Speech and Debate club

4. NHS- (national honors society)

5. Girl Scout Gold Award (working on it)

6. 8 years of indian classical dance (still continuing through high school….so will be 12 by then)

7. Many hours of service at a soup kitchen

I am still a freshmen, so as of now i have just “joined” these clubs but i am planning to actively participate in them throughtout high school (and hopefully become president or something). Just wanted to know if these were enough (for extracurriculars only)……so i could plan accordingly.

Thanks!

Those defintely seem like a sufficient amount of extracurriculars. I suggest going with your plan and becoming president or another officer position. This will look even better on your college application. Also do not get too involved, where it interferes with your school work. If you need to drop one or two things that it okay.

94% of entering freshman has a GPA of 3.75 or better. I am sure you are fully capable of achieving this, maybe even putting a few AP or IB classes on your plate.

Keep working hard and you should do great.

Yes, you’re well on your way to be Stanford worthy.. although I think you should know the difference between singular & plural form of the word ‘freshman”. The first high school I went to was a magnet program, and all my peers including me joined as many clubs and activities as possible. In my case, I moved around too much and some of the high schools I went to later on did not have anything of interest to me. But plenty of my peers ended up not continuing with our freshman activities. Things happen; plans don’t work out. Keep that in mind.

If you come from a small town that’ll help you out a lot, too, because too many people from big schools do all the same things you do (besides Indian dance.. thats pretty cool!)
