Applying to college: Extracurriculars?

I havent really been involved in that many sports, but i do have good grades. I was wondering if I should do a few more extracurriculars. Here are the ones ive done so far….

– Link Crew (2 yrs.) Its a program during the summer in which we talk to the incoming freshman and sophomores and try to acquaint them with highschool.

– Tennis (1 yr.) But i had to quit half way through the season

– Sophomore, Junior & Senior executive (3 yrs.) We try to raise money and help out our graduating class

– JROTC (2 yrs.) I became a squad leader and even recieved a medal for “Most outstanding cadet”.

– Journalism (2 yrs.) I became an editor this year.

– Socratic Society Club. (1 yr.) I was an officer, the treasurer.

– Im going to start volunteering at a hospital too.

Can you suggest anymore extracurriculars? I like anything that has to do with art and volunteering.

I worked at a selective liberal arts college in admission for four years – your resume above looks very solid. While colleges do want to see that you do more than just wake up, go to high school, then go home, they are most concerned with your academic preparation. Admission committees are most concerned about one thing: are you going to be able to handle the rigor of a college classroom. After that, they want to see that you are going to contribute to their co-curricular program (student life). You have done some amazing things that have demonstrated great leadership. Don’t take on too many more things that may jeopardize your grades and ability to put your best foot forward academically. You are going to be fine.

That actually looks pretty good… especially if you just want to go to a state school and not an ivy league school or anything. You don’t have to do everything and no one really can. I never did sports in high school but I volunteered for 10 years from 5th grade up and played cello in different orchestras. I still got scholarships because of my grades and the classes I took.

I know someone who volunteered at an art museum for a summer. That might be an idea.

You’re kind of scattered. If you’re just trying to get into a state school, you’re fine. Do some more leadership. Stay involved in the stuff you’re doing and try and attain higher leadership positions if possible.

Not everyone is an athlete. You don’t necessarily have to do sports if you don’t like them.

It’s kind of late to do anything special that will impress a top school like a Harvard or Stanford. If you’re not aiming that high, then you should be fine.

Admission officers seem for college scholars who no longer in basic terms excel academically yet are nicely-rounded, too. Extracurricular activities tutor that a student is dedicated and has a stable paintings ethic which will stay with them in greater coaching and someplace else. If could choose to be in sturdy academic status advance your GPA to a three.5 and take the SAT. Get a minimum of a 1700 on that to be nicely-recognized by ability of admissions. For me, I have been given a 1990 on the SAT Reasoning (2nd attempt devoid of examining) and a 29 on the ACT and 11 for the writing bit (extra it up from a 27 by ability of examining relatively the 2nd time). on the SAT II’s I have been given 740 for Math and 690 for Molecular Biology. My GPA replaced into 3.9 unweighted and four.2 weighted. additionally, i replaced into: in American pink circulate, the faculty newspaper, on the chess team, AVID, on the faculty internet site Council, huge on volunteerism, etc. you may desire to work out the bigger photograph while you’re to prevail and get in the faculty of your determination. in case you haven’t any longer began on your extracurriculars already I strongly recommend you to attain this in the previous that is in basic terms too late.
