Anyone have any tips for getting into UC San Diego?

Anyone know what kinds of after-school activities UCSD like, and what kinds of extra classes (at a community college or school electives) might help?

This applies to any college– but you need to pick any activities that you are interested in/passionate about. Rather than having a long list of activities, have a few that you can strongly commit too. In general, colleges like to do leadership and community service, but in addition if you are talented in something like music or sports, they like to see that too. You don’t have to take any classes at community colleges… try to challenge yourself within the setting of your own high school by taking honors and AP and doing WELL. Your GPA is more important than any list of extracurricular activities. It is very hard to get in… last year only 40% of applicants got in and the average GPA was a 4.06. You need to have a 650 at least on each section of the SAT.

Well good luck!
