This is how they sort out the people who have the determination to become physicians from those who do not.

Much of medicine is nothing more than chemistry: we titrate medications, track diffusion rates through the body, and study the distribution of flows and concentrations of various enzymes. Later on, you’ll take organic chemistry, and after that biochemistry, where you’ll learn how proteins are built out of smaller assemblies of molecules–and how they break down into certain decay products and poisons that make you sick.

They’re not doing this to make your life miserable. The human body is exceedingly complex, and this is how we deal with it.

So please take courage and do your work. It sounds like you’re scared, and that’s causing you more problems than the chemistry itself.

I am no physician and do not plan to become one, at least not yet anyway- time can always change things. Anyway, I was in the same boat with you for a long time. I hated chemistry too, because I found it hard to understand, BUT the biggest issue wasn’t that it was difficult, it was my attitude. If you want to do well in chemistry, your attitude about the course needs to change. If you tell yourself you hate chemistry, you’re setting yourself up to fail or at the very least, struggle with it. Go into this course with a good attitude, read your book, take notes from your reading, attend every lecture and take notes over that, attend every lab, and make an appointment to see the professor in his/her office hours if you need additional help. Your professors are there to work for you. You pay good money to attend these classes, so it is to your advantage to use every resource availabe and obtain a good grade!

High school chem or college gen. chem? if High school, do all the work, and if college, do all the work. Gen chem is easy if you just do the assigned work, and get help if you don’t understand it. If you are talking about organic chem, I can’t help ya.
