Am I taking too many classes for my first semester?

I will be starting pre-med next year, and in my first semester i will be taking Calculus1, Gen Bio w/lab, Gen Chem w/ lab and a speech class. It comes out to 16 credit hours. Is this too much or is it normal for a pre med student?

That is normal class load for pre-med. These classes are meant to be what we call “weed out courses” meaning everyone wants to be pre-med/science, but not all can be. These courses help determine who needs a new major.

If you don’t want to be a weed here is my advice.

Watch the partying keep it in check. your at school to learn not drink.

As a science major keep in mind only a few genius’ can ace them with flying colors without attending classes. If you are one of them fantastic.

The rest of us mere mortals actually have to study and go to class.

If you are a smart, good noodle, go to class, take great notes, those lazy bloodsuckers will figure it out real fast. Do not loan out your notes before an exam (not even to that hot co-ed) I knew people who did this and then failed themselves. I am a selfish witch so it did not apply to me.

Pick your lodging close to your science building if living on campus . you will be there all hours of the day and night. Classes are early in the am for science/.med majors and cramming for an exam has you hooing late into the night with the owls and rising early in the am with the roosters.

Labs can be late at night and junior/senior year extended research/labs/positions can last the whole semester where you feel like you live there. It is nice to have the option of rolling out of bed, grabbing, granola, and running like hell to get to class.

Now go learn and have fun. College is a wonderful time in life.

Taking 16 hours isn’t bad. I did 19 hours last semester including anat and phys and the rest all 400 level classes. It’s a lot of work. You just have to make sure you stay on top of things. If you start falling behind make sure to get help from your professors or a campus organization as soon as you can.

it’s definitely do-able. Just make sure you aren’t working on the side. Also be sure to have 100% determination and dedication. Personally, 16 credit hours is a bit much for me. Make sure you have something to motivate you when you’re slacking. Goodluck

16 hours is a good amount of hours to take. Don’t take any more than that.
