A question for all you English professors out there…?
We all know what Synonyms, Antonyms, and Homynyms are. But is there a formal academic term in the study of English for words that sound the same, are spelled the same, but have different meanings? Ex: “I ‘ran’ the race.” vs. “I ‘ran’ the reports.”

homophones are words that sound the same (“homo”=same, “phone”=sound) but are spelled differently.
homographs are words that are spelled the same (“homo”=same, “graph”=writing) but are pronounced differently.
words that are spelled the same and pronounced the same are called homonyms.
(ps, i was surprised how many incorrect answers you got, including the previous one. homonyms appear together in a dictionary because they have the same spelling, but that does not mean they’re the same word.)
