It gives you a good background to go into quite a range of jobs. However, I don’t think the pay is as good as other fields, but if you are willing to start fairly low and work your way up the salaries can end up being pretty good.
A friend of mine worked for a TV channel as an assistant, and while she didn’t like that too much, she was patient, and now produces her own segments of a popular daytime TV show (she did a Media degree too).
Where you live etc would depend on what salary, so I am not sure what you would make per year but often the first year you may have to do an internship or a lower paid role in order to get a foot on the ladder (only for the more glamorous areas such as TV etc).
I think the best part about the Media degree is that you get to have fun doing it, they usually are very creative and flexible degrees with lots of practical experience rather than classroom type lessons. Although this can also be a small downside as some employers do see a Media degree as being less academic but if you go to a creative type job I am sure they won’t have this opinion as its what they do!
Hope it works out! π
