What state claims to be home of the first……?
Favorite Answer
Connecticut.
The Nutmeg State (as well as the Constitution State).
Our state bird is the Robin and our state song is Yankee Doodle (why? I don’t know).
Connecticut is home to the first hamburger (1895), Polaroid camera (1934), helicopter (1939), color television (1948), and female governor (1974). All this and PEZ too! Woo!
History of Hamburgers
Tracing history back thousands of years, we learn that even the ancient Egyptians ate ground meat, and down through the ages we also find that ground meat has been shaped into patties and eaten all over the world under many different name.
Polaroid Land Camera in 1947
Edwin Herbert Land, American physicist and inventor, born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The modern helicopter.
Immigrants have left an indelible mark on Connecticut history.
Already an accomplished inventor when Igor Sikorsky fled Bolshevik Russia in 1919 at the age of thirty to take up residence near Bridgeport among fellow exiles, Sikorsky revolutionized aviation by building and flying the first practical helicopter.
Colour television.
1928 – John Logie Baird uses a field-sequential technique to demonstrate colour television images at a British Association meeting in Glasgow
1938 Feb – Baird demonstrates experimental large-screen colour tv in London
1939 – Baird demonstrates high definition colour tv at the Radio Show
Texas is also the only state that can legally fly its own flag at the same height as the US flag, and along with Hawaii the only states that have permission to dissolve the treaty that had the US annexing Texas and become it’s own country again. That is why when Texas withdrew from the union during the civil war it was only state to do so legally. In fact operated on it’s own for 8 months before it became an “ally” of the confederacy. Texas did not surrender when the confederacy di, but continued to fight for another 6 months.
That is why people from Texas are so proud to be from there. We know that we truly have the power to leave if we do not aggree with the US on matters. I don’t think it will ever happen becaue people of Texas are also very proud to be Americans as a whole(not everyone but most).
PS Do not misunderstand my stating the facts with supporting a view on slavery. That was not what I said or meant!
