It is better to have one of something than to not have two. Basically, if you know you can get something, but you think you might be able to get something better, go with the sure thing. i.e. A really nice, sweet guy asks you to prom, but you heard that the captain of the football team doesn’t have a date yet. Don’t pass on the nice guy on the chance that the football guy will ask you.

This refers to edible birds. It means if you have one in your hand you can eat or use it but two in the bush are out of reach and even though there are more they are not usable.

This can be applied to greed situations. Having a dollar now is better than chasing two dollars for ever.

Half of a sure thing is better than twice of nothing. A bird in thw hand can be cooked and eaten. Two in the bush are useless to you because you don’t actually have them.

In other words, if you have enough, don’t drop it to gamble on more.

HI Grace,

Just a note…

Dose is a quantity of medicine prescribed to be taken at one time.

Does is a 3rd person singular pres. indic. of do.

What I think you meant to ask is:

What does “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” mean?

Maybe 2 tablets. That would be the normal dose.

Are you asking what does that saying mean? It means that having something is worth more than wishing for something that you may or may not get.

People always want more than they have and they end up losing what they have when they try to get what they want.
