Make believe that you are a clock. You are looking out at the world. Your head 13 at the 12 o’clock position, and the three o’clock position will be 45 degrees to the left, not the right-that would be the 9 o’clock position.

As the other people have said, 12 o’clock is directly in front, and you can figure out the other positions by picturing yourself on top of a clock with the 12 in front. Air Traffic Control (ATC) uses these numbers to notify pilots of the positions of other aircraft. When you’re operating in controlled airspace or on a flight following, ATC will tell you, for example, “Cessna N12345, traffic 3 o’clock, 2000 ft”, which tells you to look off to your right at 2000 ft in order to avoid getting too close to the other aircraft.

you gotta picture your self as being like the hour hand of a clock looking straight forward ahead is 12 o’clock then if you look directly right it’s 4’o’clock, directly behind you is 6 o’clock directly left is 9 o’clock . you just look to where ever the number would be on a clock. I hope I explained that okay.

It refers to where the three is located on the clock. For example if someone says something is 6 o’clock it is directly behind you. And if something is 3 o’clock it is to your right.

Think of a clock. 12 would be right in front. 6 would be right behind. three to the right 90 degrees and 9 would be 90 degrees to the left

I’ve heard this term mention in driving. With your left hand on the top of the steering wheel (position in the middle) and your right hand position on the right side of the steering wheel. So it will look like the clock. Your left hand is the big hand (clock) and your right hand is the small hand (clock).
