I can tell you that Jamaica was a british colony until August 6, 1962 when it gained it’s freedom from England. Jamaicans are descendants of mostly arawak Indians brought over from Africa as slaves to work in the sugar cane fields. Port Royal was a British colony, frequented by pirates, until an earthquake sent it sliding into the sea on JUNE 7, 1692.
King Phillip of Britain also sent many prisoners there from England that he considered traitors, to work on the plantations as slaves.
