How did we know hurricane Katrina was coming? What’s the name of the radar?

I just need to know like what the radar’s name is and other stuff like that. You know, like how did we track it?

The hurricane center (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/) uses a wide array of remote sensing technologies: satellites, radar (space, aircraft, and ground mounted systems) and ocean anchored buoys and reports from ships and commercial aircraft.

It most often starts with GOES-east, a satellite watching the eastern Atlantic Ocean (http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/) to track weather systems that may develop into hurricanes. As these systems gain strength and form hurricanes, they are tracked by the satellite.

Sometimes aircraft are sent to fly in and around them to take more detailed measurements. For more info see

NEXRAD is the radar system used to track the storms as they get closer to land stations http://www.roc.noaa.gov/

International cooperation by the weather services of other countries provides more detailed local weather data as the hurricanes come close to these countries and their weather stations.

In addition to the official US weather service weather stations, there are many volunteers in the NWS (National Weather Service Cooperative Observer program that send in reports as the storms approach their areas. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/coop/coopmod.htm

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.

Katrina was initially viewed by weather satellites, rather than radar. Radar really doesn’t work very far away, because it’s essentially limited by line-of-sight and the horizon. Likewise, the storm’s track was done by satellite. I don’t know for sure, but I’d guess that one of the Goes satellies (geosynchronous-orbit satellites) was the one that was largely used; probably Goes East, since we’re talking about weather in the Atlantic ocean. The link below has lots of satellite images, and you may be able to access the archives and see the images of Katrina for yourself.

it is an extremely especially call, yet regrettably ought to have undesirable connections for a short mutually as extra. What approximately utilising a matching call rather? there is Katerina, that’s merely one letter off Katrina yet sounds distinctive sufficient to be rid of the hurricane connection. there is likewise Catriona, nonetheless i think of that seems extra helpful with a C. or maybe spelling Katrina with a C – Catrina – ought to help throw off the adverse connotations. sturdy success and congrats on the subsequent toddler besides! playstation i don’t think of you ought to merely forget with reference to the comments human beings might make in the event that they do make any approximately Katrina – it wasn’t merely any previous hurricane, it grow to be a considerable catastrophe that affected hundreds of human beings. all people, even people who do not stay everywhere close to New Orleans, knows of the hurricane. it is in contrast to 3 random one in Florida that made national information.
