Eye color percentages?
What percentages of the world have certain eye colors? Green, Blue, Amber, Hazel, Brown, Violet, etc. Which is the most common, and which is the least common?

From what I’ve read, brown is the most common color and green is the rarest because the genes themselves are rare. Amber, grey, and violet are all rare colors too, but they are variations of brown and blue, respectively. As far as percentages go, about 8% of the population has blue eyes and about 2% has green. I suppose the rest have brown or hazel.

I have green eyes but I didn’t think it was the least common, but I don’t know, having two different colored eyes is called heterochromia. Yeah the guy from ESPN has it and so does David Bowie, Marilyn Manson however, I believe wears contact lenses. I only knew the heterochromic thing because I had a cat once who was heterochromic, he had one really pretty blue colored eye and one green one.

I don’t know about percentages, though I did see this somewhere. I do remember the order:
1) brown (by far),
2) blue,
3) hazel,
4) green.
The other colors are shades of these basic eye colors.
btw – I’m hazel. 🙂

I think brown is the most common. I have not seen any violet, and green is not very common. My friend has half blue/ half brown in each eye.( it’s not a mix, one part of the iris is blue and the other is brown). One thing that is really wierd is that Jay Crawford on ESPN first take has one eye that is blue and the other is brown(I’ve never seen that before).

Blue eyes are the most common where I live with some brown eyed people, and amber eyed people are rarely seen here.

Yeah that guy from ESPN has different colored eyes, it’s crazy! Mine are green, and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the uncommon colors.
