Crazy thoughts question!?
Why do we sing “Rock a bye baby” to lull our little ones to sleep when the song is about putting your baby in a tree and letting the wind crash the cradle to the ground?
Can anyone tell me?

I posted a website with the possible origin of the words below. Essentially mothers would tie the cradles to the trees to let the wind rock the babies while they worked in the fields. The part about crashing to the ground I believe is meant to be warning to choose your bough carefully.

Know something even more disturbing…most nursery rhymes/lullabies depict some sort of violence and that’s why they are so popular in law schools as an introduction to case analysis. (i.e. pick out the different crimes being commited) Example: The rhyme about the five little pigs, guess what you’ve got murder, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and you could perhaps even argue arson and failure to render aid/or aiding and abetting in there as well.
