Can you recommend a book, movie or a person who/which has a theme of volunteerism?

I’m writing a feature article about it and I need help.

How about the 80’s movie Volunteers. Tom Hanks and John Candy. Off the wall comedy, but funny

Well you could argue that Oscar Schindler (Schindlers List) was the ultimate volunteer, saving people’s lives.

Jesus, Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, Martin Luther, these leaders volunteered themselves.

In more traditional terms:

Albert Schweitzer – dr. who worked in africa, 1952 nobel prize winner

Jimmy Carter and his work with Housing for Humanity

Bill Gates for giving his money and now his time to his foundation

Mother Theresa

Princess Diana

Can’t believe no one came up with this one: The Patriot starring Mel Gibson. It was about the Revolutionary war. Mel’s character’s oldest son wanted to volunteer, and so did one of his younger sons. His oldest son went into battle and got killed, so Mel himself volunteered at that point. One of the greatest US history movies ever made, and fits your topic perfectly.

I would say to do it over Hunter “Patch” Adams. Robin Williams starred in the movie “Patch Adams”. It was a great movie and I think Patch is a great guy.
