Can i get into a grad school with a low gpa?

I just finished my undergraduate college and I am very interested in getting my PhD in biology. The only problem is that I have a very low gpa, 2.6. I needed some tips or ideas about how I can still get into a school? I am scared that I will not be accepted anywhere. Do I still have a chance at grad school? Are there any schools in the U.S who accept students with low gpa’s? Is it easier to get into a masters program and then transfer into the PhD program from there? I need some advice, can someone help me? Im desperate as it is time to start applying to schools.

Why did you have such a low GPA?

Why do you still want to continue with an area that you have done poorly in?

Why should one expect that you will improve when the competition becomes more intense and the work is more difficult?

Ask those questions of yourself and be prepared to answer them at an interview.

You no doubt will be accepted at some school. Do not despair. You would be better off in a masters program at this time and then transfer.

can you retake any of the classes? how did you score on the gre? if you havent taken it yet try to get as high as possible because that is the #2 thing they look at. i would check the schools admissions sites before you apply to see the minimum gpa they accept and the stats on previously admitted people to the program. only that will give you a real idea of your chances.

I don’t think that GPA will allow you to get into most grad schools. I mean that’s what schools base most things off of is the GPA and any boards or exit exams you have.

I would meet with your advisor and see if there are any schools that would be willing to accomodate you. You’re just going to have to do your research and see if there’s any way to get that GPA up as much as possible, more closer to a 3.0. Usually schools want at 3.5 or higher.

Good luck

Hi.. Thats the most problems of students right now here in the US. you would be able to go to colleges here in the U.S. except fo University Colleges because they require a 4.0 & above. I think the best way that most people do is either take some classes over the summer in a Community College to earn better grade in a certain class or go to a community college for 2 years & go to a State college or University College. Do you have a certain college in mind?

A university would have to pretty desperate for grad students to grant admission to someone with a 2.6 gpa. I had a 3.87 gpa at the U of F and barely made it into the EE grad program. BUT stranger things have happened. Lots of luck.

Only if your test scores are really high. You could try getting a second ungrad. degree from another school.
