Can cockroaches swim? (not just float… but stay alive in water)?

My roommate and I have a bet… He says they can, I say they can’t!

Who’s right?

thanks

they can’t. like humans, they can just float or stay under water for a while but they can’t stay there for, let’s say, the rest of the day..

After seeing how my own body reacts along with the bodies of other people I say that you kind of need to gently paddle the water to stay afloat. I don’t think that you can remain perfectly still and float based on human’s floatation rates and buoyancy in the water. I’ve also found that lying flat on your back and “sculling” with your hands and very gently kicking is the best way to stay afloat and conserve the most energy.
