It’s a diminutive of the word Scramble ..vb. Intrans and Trans from Medieval English meaning to rake , snatch at or scrape together .. originally thought to be a nasal form of scrabble .. meaning to clamber,climb,crawl or make one’s way long, up and down as best one can
