Sorry, this question is not a matter of being out of college too long. If you are a teacher, you should know why communication skills are important.

Teachers must communicate with students, parents, coworkers, and administrators on a daily basis. If they cannot effectively express their message, they will not be understood, which can lead to all kinds of problems. To add to this, effective communication is not just the words coming out of your mouth; it also includes nonverbal cues, such as body language and eye contact. These nonverbal cues can also be very important to getting your message across, especially when the people communicating with each other do not speak the same language at the same level. It is obvious from your question that English is not your first language. So if you are communicating with native English speakers, you must use both verbal and nonverbal communication to convey your message so you can be understood completely.

Teachers have to be able to effectively communicate with their students, parents, other teachers, and administration. Part of good communication skills is the ability to read your audience, and that is a major part of a classroom. You have to be able to see what the students are learning and having trouble with and then be able to adjust your lesson to meet their needs.
