More and more parents will choose to take their children’s education back into their own hands and homeschool them. The number of families choosing to do this is rising every year. It isn’t just religious people that do it anymore. There are a lot of parents who teach their own children just because they are tired of their kids not learning to read in kindergarten, and not capable of doing algebra before graduation.

We don’t need to revise the way we prepare teachers, we need to revise what is taught in the public school system. I went to college with people who were going to be teachers who didn’t know how to read a nutrition label, who thought that aspirin was addictive and causes heart attacks, who weren’t able to pass a standardized test with simple math and reading problems. I had one teacher tell her students that people in Australia call their summer winter, because it’s winter in America, so everywhere in the world calls it winter at the same time. What happened here? All these people should have known these things before they got to college, it’s not the college’s job to teach them these simple things. And then these people are going out and teaching your kids. I moved out of state after working with these people. The reform needs to start much earlier than at the college level.

things do need to change to make it a better process. I am going to be a teacher I think for a better classroom situation there needs to be smaller class rooms and individual assessment of each child not only academics… but maybe social background to so you can blend them together this will help children with self esteem and in turn help them participate and learn easier… Also it will be more evident if the teacher is good for that level of teaching… if we dont the gov prob will take over ….

I doubt that there will be major repercussions. Teacher education has changed significantly in the past 30 years, and I expect it will continue to change, as will most aspects of society. More important would be to change class size (smaller) and school environments (better facilities and materials), and to ensure that equitable education is available to all and is not dependent on family income.
