What types of Teachers are in demand?

I currently am en route to become a Mathematics teacher, but I’m starting to maybe want to combine mathematics with physics certification (Any state, would like to move to midwest or NY (Not NYC)).

I’ve been reading theorems of Physics lately and would like to teach classes on the applications. Mathematics is a love of mine, but physics is right behind it.

Is it feasible for a school to hire someone to do, say, both?

YES!

and your choice of the two would put you in very high demand indeed. That’s the sort of dual certification that makes schools fight over you and offer you very sweet incentives.

The only thing that would be any better would be those two (math and physics) AND being a football coach with a winning record… ☺

If you’re good at both of those then go for the dual subject certification. You’d be marketable in any state.

Well, if you could get a job teaching something in the health field, that would be a good idea. Everyone thinks that there is a major shortage of nurses, however, there is actually a large shortage of nursing teachers. Just a suggestion. :o)

Go to a specific state’s dept of education homepage. They will have statistics (likely by county) showing the various demands for teachers.

Generally speaking though, math teachers are in above average demand so you should be okay.

Higher level math and science are in high demand along with special education teachers.

Yes, you could find a job teaching both.

It would serve you well to add an endorsement in a special ed field, as well.
